The All-inclusive Cisco SASE (Secure Access Service Edge). Explained

CISCO sase simplified

Cisco SASE is a newly launched service by Cisco to facilitate network operations (NetOps) and security operations (SecOps) teams. The company also announced an enhancement of its cloud-native platform, SecureX, to help with the management of new and emerging threats.

By doing so, Cisco has introduced a new subscription service that provides its clients with the option to purchase all of their SASE product components under one umbrella instead of separately. This new system is integrated into the networking devices that Cisco offers and allows users in the future to transition from this arrangement to a single subscription service easily.

Cisco SASE architecture includes some of the best networking, remote access, cloud security, zero trust network access, and observability features available. Combined in a single subscription service, this collection of features allows you to seamlessly gain secure access to any application over any network or cloud anywhere that users work.

What is SASE ?

Secure access service edge (SASE) is a network architecture that combines VPN and SD-WAN capabilities with cloud-native security functions such as secure web gateways, cloud access security brokers, firewalls, and zero-trust network access.

SASE network plus security

SASE stands for Secure access service edge,  a network architecture that combines VPN and SD-WAN capabilities with cloud-native security functions such as secure web gateways, cloud access security brokers, firewalls, and zero-trust network access.

SASE networks use SD-WAN to connect branch sites and cloud resources across the network. SD-WAN uses a variety of existing network connections, including MPLS, Internet, and 4G LTE. SASE networks can use SD-WAN to connect to cloud resources, including public cloud services and private clouds. SASE networks can also use SD-WAN to optimize cloud-based applications. SASE networks use cloud-native security services to protect resources and users across the network.

What is driving adoption of SASE?

With the digital transformation of businesses, security is moving to the cloud.SASE provides a cloud-based, consolidated view of your entire IT environment and security posture. This enables you to have more visibility, control, and automation to secure your applications and data across cloud and on-premises environments.

Benefits from a SASE model

The SASE model consolidates numerous networking and security functions—traditionally delivered in siloed point solutions—into a single, integrated cloud service. By consolidating with SASE, enterprises can enjoy the superior cloud services.

  • Provide centralized orchestration and real-time application optimization
  • Help secure seamless access for users
  • Enable more secure remote and mobile access
  • Restrict access based on user, device, and application identity
  • Improve security by applying consistent policy
  • Increase network and security staff effectiveness with centralized management
  • Reduce costs and complexity

SD-WAN(Software-defined Wide Area Network)

SD-WAN is a cloud-based WAN that helps simplify IT environments and provides a seamless, single Internet connection. It incorporates best-in-class security while offering a predictable user experience across any application or network.

Cyber security

Cyber security is a set of technologies which helps defend against threats and enforce user, data, and application policies. Cloud security is a subset of cyber security deals with protecting an enterprise’s data from external and internal entities by having the best detection tools fitted to their environment.

Zero trust network

A zero trust network access can help limit unauthorized access, contain breaches, and allow an organization to control how an attack spreads on its network.
